Regular bake is the standard oven also known as thermal bake ovens. There are heating elements present on the top and bottom of the oven which act as a source of heat. The air has to circulate passively because they do not consist of a fan to help to transport the air evenly. 

This can result in uneven heating and cooking of food.  The heat intensity is thus dependent on the continuity of the heating element.  If these heating elements become old, it may take more time to heat the oven and maybe difficult to regulate the temperatures inside the oven.

Regular bakes are used to make cakes because the still air in the standard oven will keep the surface of the cake smooth. It is also useful in making quick bread, muffins, and cupcakes, which keeps the small surfaces of the sides in its position. Regular bakes are also used for making sandwiches and soft yeast bread and soft yeast rolls. Because the cooking is gentler compared to a convection bake, it can give the softness which is needed in the making of bread because the crusty exterior is not desired.
