How to keep your nuts fresh?


Purchase them fresh.

Purchase the freshest nuts and seeds possible. As a general rule, bulk bins are a smart place to start since they often have a fast turnover and are frequently refilled. If possible, sample before purchasing to confirm freshness. 

Additionally, make an effort to purchase just what you need. The temptation to buy all three at the same time can be strong, but if you don’t need them all right away, only buy what you need.


Cover it with a lid.

Nuts should be stored in sealed containers. You may use old takeout containers, mason jars, or anything else that can be sealed and closed tightly. This keeps air out, which results in fresher nuts, and avoids the infiltration of outside scents, which are readily absorbed.


Maintain a cool temperature.

While storing nuts and seeds in sealed containers is a good start, it’s much more critical to keep them cool. If you’re not planning to use them immediately, you can store them in containers in a cool, dark place. 

However, they will only live a few months at room temperature. The nuts and seeds will stay fresher for a longer period of time if they are kept in a cool, dry place away from the heat of the kitchen, such as the refrigerator or freezer. 

They’ll keep for up to six months in the refrigerator and up to one year in the freezer. The more robust your container, the less likely it will absorb odors from other foods kept nearby.
