Is yogurt and curd the same?

No, curd and yogurt are not the same. They both have similarities as they look similar, but they’re different in many things. They both have different nutritional values. Curd is homemade, while yogurt is made in factories by the fermentation of bacteria.

We know that both curd and yogurt are dairy products. No doubt both are beneficial in their way. Curd is homemade, obtained by coagulation of milk, and the process is known as curdling.

The coagulation of milk is done when we add rennet, or we can also add other edible acidic substances and even a small amount of curd itself. Then we will allow it to coagulate for a few hours. Its acidity will convert the liquid milk into the curd.

Curd is being used to enhance food taste, but besides food flavors, the curd is also proven very healthy for human health. It is a significant source of calcium which makes the teeth and bones strong. It increases the immunity of the body and improves digestion. 

As curd is homemade, but yogurt is obtained by fermentation of bacteria. It is an industrial process. Two living bacteria are used for the formation of yogurt. Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophiles bacteria are used. To make yogurt, first, we heat milk at a temperature of 85 degrees. This is done to denature milk.

After this, milk is allowed to cool. The bacterias which are used to make yogurt are also called yogurt cultures. The fermentation of milk by both these bacteria produces lactic acid, and after acting on milk protein, it gives yogurt texture and good favors. 

Nutritional value of curd and yogurt: 

As curd is natural and homemade and does not contain live bacteria, we cannot consider curd probiotics. But curd contains high quantities of calcium iron vitamin B6. This diet is beneficial for bones and teeth. Both have many amino acids, which play an essential role in providing support to tissues. 

Fat content in curd and yogurt:

In terms of content, curd contains more saturated fats than yogurt. 100 grams of yogurt have three grams of fats, out of which 2 grams contain saturated fats. While in curd, 100 grams of curd contains four grams of fats, in which 2 grams contain saturated fats.

It is essential to know that curd and yogurt contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in reasonable amounts. 

In terms of calories:

Curd contains more calories than yogurt. Sixty-one calories are present in 100 grams of yogurt, while in curd, 98 calories are present in 100 grams of curd.

As much medical research is done, it proves that the saturated fats present in Curd increase the high density of lipoprotein, which helps in normalizing blood pressure.

As I mentioned above, curd also contains calcium, phosphorus, protein, folate, and vitamin B12, which is very good and helpful in giving strength to bones and teeth. In comparison, on the other hand, yogurt contains two live bacteria, which helps in the maintenance of digestion and perform other healthy functions in the body.

Which one is better to consume for good health:

Well, both yogurt and curd contain a high amount of nutrients and are beneficial in their way. Having any curd or yogurt in the diet gives many health benefits, but the research shows curd has more health benefits than yogurt and should be consumed more in the diet than yogurt.

It makes the stomach healthy by preventing the stomach from ailments such as indigestion, constipation, and acidity.
