However, some trivets do not have these handles. This steam rack is very useful for steaming, pressure-steaming, and cooking with the Pot-in-Pot (PIP) method.

What foods can be made using a trivet?

Boiled eggs 

Instant pot is a very handy tool to make boiled eggs and trivet is used to hold the eggs in the instant pot so they do not break while boiling and you get a smooth peeled boiled egg.

Steamed vegetables 

Cut the vegetables into the desired size. Make sure the pieces are large enough so they do not fall through the perforations of the trivet. Fill the instant pot with at least 2 cups of water and steam the veggies like beets, potatoes, asparagus, squash after placing them on the trivet inside the pot.

Cakes and cheesecake 

First of all, fill the inner pot with at least 2 cups of water. Then comes the trivet followed by the cake pan. Make sure the cake pan fits perfectly inside the inner pot without touching the walls of the pot.

Lasagna and casseroles 

Lasagna and casseroles are made the same way as cakes. The inner pot is filled with 2 cups of water, fitted with the steam rack followed by the lasagna or casserole pan.

Meats 

Instant pot is a very useful equipment to have If you love flavorful meats. You can use this method to make ribs, hams, whole chickens, or any other meat. 

Simply fill the inner pot with a seasoned liquid, broth, or simply water. Then adjust the trivet inside the pot. Finally, place the marinated meat onto the rack.

Delicate foods

The trivet allows you to place delicate foods like fish and seafood and remove them when they are cooked without breaking them.

Avoiding the burn message 

If you place your food on the trivet, you can avoid the burn message because the water on the bottom of the inner pot is acting as a barrier.

Cooking multiple recipes together 

This method is only applicable to foods that have the same cooking time and temperature. First, fill the inner pot with 2 cups of water and adjust a trivet at the bottom. 

Place the dish containing your food on this rack. Lay another rack over the food dish. Place the second dish of food and let the instant pot do its job.

  1. Fill the inner pot with at least 1 cup of water.
  1. Fill an oven-safe container with your food. For slow and mild cooking, cover this container with a lid or foil.
  1. Place this container on the trivet.
  1. Turn the Venting Knob from Venting Position to Sealing Position.
  2. Press the “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” button on yur instant pot and set the pressure cooking time according to the recipe.
  1. After the pressure cooking cycle is complete and the timer goes off, release the pressure by turning the Venting Knob from the Sealing Position back to the Venting position.
