How to reheat stir fry? (+ tips for cooking a great stir-fry)

In this brief guide, we are going to answer the question “How to reheat stir fry?” and give you some tips for cooking a great stir-fry. We will also discuss what is the best type of oil to stir-fry and the differences between some methods of cooking.

How to reheat stir fry?

The best and simplest way of reheating stir-fry is microwaving it. You only have to spread the food out evenly and cover it with a moist paper towel. It is important that the paper towel is not dry.  You may also spray a small amount of water over the dish before placing it in the microwave.

This process of spraying some water and covering the food with a moist paper towel helps to prevent the food from drying out. To ensure that the food reheats evenly, you may also stir it every now and then.

On the stove

Using the stove for reheating a stir-fry meal is also a good idea. To avoid overcooking, drizzle with oil and reheat the meal over low to medium heat. To ensure equal heating, you also have to stir it regularly.

What are the tips for making a great stir-fry meal?

1. Chop the food very small, with equal pieces

Whether it’s veggies or meat, chop them into small, equal pieces. This ensures that the cooking is done evenly and that nothing becomes excessively soft or raw.

2. The fire must constantly be kept at low or medium heat.

The intense heat increases the likelihood of the food burning, so you should always keep the fire at low or medium heat.

3. Heat the fat first

Bring the fat (olive oil, butter, or oil) you will use to stir-fry the food to a boil first. When the fat is heated, add the pieces of veggies and/or meat.

4. Keep an eye on the amount of fat

Put just enough fat to get the food moist. According to Chef Guto Medeiros, the amount of fat should be around 5% of the component that will be cooked. When the amount increases, the method is modified to frying.

5. Continually stir the food

Throughout the procedure, you must continually stir the food to prevent it from burning and to get the correct texture.

6. Set your ingredients in advance

Make everything ready before putting the pan on the fire, otherwise, something will burn while you chop food. Remember: you need to stir food constantly, so prepare everything before turning on the stove.

What is the ideal type of oil to stir-fry?

The best options of oil to stir-fry your food are Canola oil and coconut oil.

Canola oil

This type of oil contains the most omega 3, vitamin E, and the greatest profile of monounsaturated and saturated fats.  Canola oil has omega 3 and monounsaturated fatty acids, which are recognized as beneficial substances for the heart.

Coconut oil

This type of oil requires a very high temperature to saturate your fat. Extra virgin coconut oil is the one with the most health benefits, as it does not go through refining processes and does not lose nutrients or undergo high temperatures, for example.

Extra virgin olive oil

Extra virgin olive oil is also a good alternative since it only oxidizes its fat at high temperatures for more than an hour.

What are the methods of cooking?

STIR-FRY

It’s a low-fat, low-heat fried dish. Preparations vary but typically include fragrant elements such as vegetables sliced into small pieces and cooked in cooking oil. The idea is to gently brown the component, releasing moisture so that it may mingle with and cook another meal.

SAUTÉE

This procedure is similar to the last one, with the key difference being the temperature of the oil. When sautéing a dish, we use high heat and continually stir to ensure rapid cooking and that the item does not lose too much liquid while retaining its qualities.

REDUCE

Reducing means decreasing the volume of a liquid by evaporation. This technique is usually performed by boiling the liquid over a fire and making it more concentrated. The sauce is the most common type of recipe in which a reduction is used.

FLAMBÉ

Flaming is nothing more than watering a preparation or a dish with alcoholic beverages and setting fire to it. When adding a drink, the difference in flavor between food that was flamed and one that was not is notable, so this technique is used, both with savory dishes, such as meat and with desserts.
