First of all, you need to leave the leftover soup in the insert pot. Store it in the fridge after covering it with some silicone lid or plastic wrap. Before reheating, remove this lid and put the insert into the instant pot.

To slowly reheat the soup, turn on the “Keep warm” function. For a quicker reheating, press the Manual/Pressure Cook button followed by setting the cooking time to 0 minutes. This will bring the soup quickly to a boil and then It will keep the soup in the “Keep warm” mode.

How to reheat thickened soups in the instant pot?

Some soups or stews will become thickened during storage. It is because of the added starch in the form of rice, pasta, or cornstarch that keeps sucking the moisture. The same goes for soups containing cream or cheese.

For reheating thickened soup, your best bet is to add in a splash of water, milk, or broth depending on the type of your soup. The best way to reheat these thickened soups is by the “Keep warm” functions to prevent them from scorching.  However, for quick reheating:

  1. Add loads of water until the soups are runny so that It boils without getting burnt.
  1. Reheat the soup using the Saute function on low heat while frequently stirring it to keep it from sticking to the bottom.

How to reheat soups containing pasta, potatoes, or vegetables?

You may not want to overheat such soups or else their delicate contents will turn mushy. Use the Keep Warm or 0 minute pressure cook time. You can reheat the soup a bit longer in the “Keep warm” mode unless you are not annoyed by softening of Its contents.

How to reheat soups in a smaller container? 

The pot-in-pot method of reheating soups stored in small heatproof containers instead of the insert pot is your best bet. All you have to do is add water to the insert pot of the Instant Pot and put the trivet where it belongs, followed by putting the smaller container onto the trivet.

It’s best to use steam mode with the pot-in-pot method. The time for reheating depends on how cold and how much the soup was and what are its contents. On average, It will take about 3-5 minutes.

How to reheat chili in the instant pot?

Chilli can be reheated the same way as the soup. If It is too thick, add a splash of water or broth or heat using the Saute function with frequent stirring to keep It from sticking to the bottom. 

You can slowly heat the chili using the “Keep warm” function or you can also use the pot-in-pot method for reheating a relatively small amount of chili.

How long does the instant pot take to warm up?

An instant pot takes about 10-15 minutes to warm up depending on the number of contents present in the instant pot. The more the contents inside the instant pot, the longer It will take to come to pressure. The pressure is released from the instant pot in two ways. 

In a quick or natural release, the control knob above the pot from the seal is tuned resulting in quick depressurization of the pot. In case of a slow-release, the pot is allowed to sit and release pressure slowly and naturally. This is particularly important when cooking delicate foods like beans.

Instant pot stuck on preheat 

This is a very common problem for newcomers. The display panel reads as “ON’ when the pot is preheating. After reaching the set temperature, It starts to pressurize to trigger the timer. The following factors may be the reason why your instant pot is stuck in the preheating phase.

Release valve not set to seal

If the release valve is set on vent instead of seal, It won’t pressurize and the cooking process won’t start. Once the pot starts to pressurize, you will notice steam coming out of the float valve and not the release valve.

Seals misaligned or damaged

If the sealing rings are misaligned or damaged, they won’t let the pressure build-up. Before operating the instant pot, check the seals. Replace them every 12-16 months. You must have at least two rings and use different rungs for sweet and sour dishes.
