To germinate bell peppers, you do not need a lot of things: You just need to replant the pepper bell, a container with drainage holes, and the substrate. The container has to have these drainage holes. As for the substrate, it should preferably be extremely light and fertile, like those found in gardening stores.

When selecting peppers, go for ones with brighter, firmer hues, since they will likely produce more appealing plants.

After you have separated the items, cut the fruit in half and remove the seeds. Then choose which ones will be replanted. It is important to remove any seeds that are black or withered. The remainder will be placed in a glass of water and let to rest until the next day.

Some seeds will undoubtedly appear floating about the next day, so you should discard them either. After that, remove the leftover seeds and set them on a paper towel to dry for at least a couple of days. Keep them in a well-ventilated area away from the sun.

Then, plant the seeds 1 cm deep in a bright, fertile substrate. Place the seeds in a container with drainage holes and keep the soil wet but not waterlogged. When the seedlings are about 10 cm tall, it is time to move them to their final container. After replanting, the growth period will last around one week.  

It is crucial that the final container’s substrate has light, drainable, healthy soil rich in organic matter. 

Maintain basic care and determine whether tutoring is required. The most essential thing is to keep it in a well-lit area where it may receive six to eight hours of sunshine every day and to keep the soil wet but never waterlogged. 

While not required, staking your bell peppers can help keep them off the ground, away from pests, and decrease sunscald, which can develop if the pepper is exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time in hot weather. 

Bell pepper leaves often offer some shade for the fruit, and propping might aid in keeping them upright and covered.

It is also important to avoid pests. Garden pests that enjoy bell peppers include aphids and flea beetles. To keep pests at bay, use organic pesticides and tend to your plants on a regular basis.

Bell peppers grow in the presence of maize, cucumbers, and carrots, but not in the presence of cabbage family plants or fennel.

Red bell pepper is high in antioxidants, such as lycopene, which help to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is also high in vitamin C and E. It has the greatest levels of ascorbic acid and beta-carotene (10 times more than green peppers).

  • It contributes to the preservation of healthy bones and teeth due to the presence of calcium in its composition;
  • Because of the vitamin A and C content, it helps to maintain good vision.
