How to eat lemons?

Eating a lemon raw 

Meyer lemons can be eaten like fruit. They have a milder and less tangy taste as compared to their counterparts. Just peel the lemon using a sharp knife. Use the zest in recipes. Make sure you remove as much pith as possible because it has a bitter taste.

After peeling, cut the lemons into wedges and the wedges into bite-sized pieces. Last but not the least, sprinkle some sugar to complement the acidic flavor of the lemons. Alternatively, you can eat them plain or add them to salad, fruit cocktail, or any other dish.

Make lemonade 


  • 1 cup white, granulated sugar (can reduce to 3/4 cup)
  • 1 cup water (for the simple syrup)
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 2 to 3 cups cold water (to dilute)


  1. In a saucepan, add water and sugar. On medium heat, stir the sugar until it dissolves. The syrup is ready.
  2. You will have to squeeze roughly four lemons If they are large or 6 If small.
  3. In a serving pitcher, pour the sugar syrup that you prepared along with the freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  4. Then add 2-3 cups of cold water and taste the sugar and acid. Adjust the water or lemon at this point. Do not dilute too much because you will add ice at the end that will melt eventually making the juice dilute.
  5. Now refrigerate the lemonade for 30-40 minutes.
  6. Before serving, add crushed ice and lemon slices and enjoy.

Preserving lemons 

  1. Lemons can be preserved by canning in saltwater. Canned lemons can be used in salads, dressings, soups, sauces, for cooking with vegetables, etc. follow the steps below to safely can lemons.
  2. For sterilizing the canning jar, wash the jar with its rings and lid in hot soapy water. Alternatively, bake the jar at 225℉ in the oven.
  3. To prepare the lemons, wash them and pat dry. Cut the top and stem of the lemons. When cutting through the lemons, do not slice all the way down. Instead, leave the bottom nub intact.
  4. Now, slice the lemons into halves keeping them attached from the bottom.
  5. Open the sliced quarters and sprinkle about 4 tbsp of salt. Salt acts as a preservative.
  6. Clean the jar with a clean paper towel If It is damp. Add 2 tbsp of salt at the bottom. Now, start packing preserved lemons. Last but not the least, add lemon juice to submerge the lemons.
  7. Seal the jar tight and place it somewhere warm like a countertop.
  8. The lemon will take 30 days to pickle. During this time, give the lemon a shake to homogenize the juice and salt.
  9. When using the lemons, rinse the lemons to remove the salt. Remove the pulp and seeds and use the rest of the lemon in your favorite dishes.

Lemon curd

Lemon curd makes for a great topping or spread. It can also be eaten on its own. Added to pie fillings or fruits. lemon curd makes for a great sweet and tangy addition.

Lemon sugar 

Lemon sugar enhances the flavor of baked goods when added as a topping (as in cookies) or as a substitute for regular sugar. Lemon sugar is simply regular granulated sugar that has been infused with fresh lemon flavor.

Lemon is the main ingredient to make lemon icing. It goes great with poppy seed cakes, muffins, biscotti, and fresh fruit or your favorite ice cream.

Use fresh lemon juice

Freshly squeezed lemon juice is nutrient-dense and can be added in smoothies, lemonade, salad dressings, sauces, or baked goods.
