How long do I cook frozen breaded okra in an air fryer?

The thickness and length of the okra decide the time and temperature combinations for its air frying. Your best bet is to regularly check the okra after every 5 minutes while it is air frying.

This will make sure the okras do not burn. Usually, 1-inch thick okras should be air fried for 12-15 minutes at 400℉ while ½ inch thick okras should be fried for 10-12 minutes at 400℉.

Best air-fried okra recipe

  • 1 pound okra, caps and tips cut off and sliced (about 20)
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornmeal
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • Oil spray

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400℉ (200℃) for 15-20 minutes.
  1. Whisk milk and eggs together in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, salt, and pepper until homogenous.
  1. Coat the okra first in the egg mixture, then, in the flour mixture thoroughly. Dust off the excess flour. Use one hand to dip the okras in the egg mixture and the other for covering them in flour just for the sake of keeping things clean.
  1. Transfer the breaded okra to the preheated air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the air fryer.
  1. Spray some cooking oil over the breaded okras and air fry for 10-12 minutes. Shake the basket twice during frying after regular intervals. This will give you a sneak peek into the doneness of the frying and also promote even frying.
  1. Empty the basket into a plate. Sprinkle some salt and pepper to taste.
  1. Serve warm and enjoy.

Why cook frozen okra in the air fryer?

Air frying okra creates half the mess which is created while deep-frying, baking, or roasting okra. The plus point is that the results are the same.

The air-fried okra is perfectly crispy and golden from the outside while tender from within. Air-fried okra is not greasy at all as with other methods. Air fried okras can be made in a dramatically short time.

All it takes is just 15 minutes of dedication. Since we are using less oil in case of air frying, the end product is naturally more healthy because it’s low in fat.

How to store cooked okra in the fridge?

Let the air-fried okra come to room temperature before refrigerating them. The steam should be allowed to escape or else it will get trapped inside the storage container and give rise to bacteria.

Air-fried okras should be stored within 2 hours of cooking. Use a shallow and good-quality air-tight container to pack the okras. Pop it in the fridge. If you want, you can label the container but it is optional. Use the same air-tight container or a freezer bag to freeze the okras for longer.

Air-fried okra refrigerated within 2 hours of cooking lasts 3 days if kept at a steady temperature of 4℃ or below. Continuous refrigerating slows down the biochemical reactions and preserves the freshness of the okras.
