Here are some ways in which you can make your burgers more flavourful.

Who doesn’t like a nice, juicy burger to dig into? It’s time to say goodbye to dry, overcooked burgers with some tips that will help you make your burgers more flavourful.

When other meals start to taste dreary, a burger is a typical feel-good dish to turn to. Replace the conventional ground beef with lamb, turkey, salmon, or even vegetable patties for an unique spin on this barbecue favourite.

You may use a regional flavour theme, such as Grecian or Asian, and change it up with different vegetables, cheeses, and condiments to suit your taste. Experiment with each ingredient alone or combine a couple.

Let’s take a further look at how you can create delicious, moist burgers regardless of the type of protein you use for the patty.

What do you need to prepare burgers?

Here are all the ingredients you need to prepare burgers.

Note: If you’re a fan of ground beef in your burgers, this is the recipe for you (you can always switch the meat to one of your preference too).

  • 1 ½ pound Sirloin Ground Beef
  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
  • 113 gm Blue Cheese, such as Blue Stilton
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, pounded and minced
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 4 tbsp Wine (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 3 sprigs fresh Cilantro (Parsley), chopped
  • 6 fresh Basil Leaves, chopped
  • Salt and ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • Barbeque sauce (optional)

A step-by-step guide to making burgers more flavourful

  1. In a large bowl, combine the egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, wine, mustard, parsley, basil and pepper.
  1. Mix in the ground sirloin and lean beef with your hands. If the mixture looks too dry, add some more wine. You should be able to make 6–8 patties with the meat.
  1. Sprinkle both sides liberally with salt and pepper, then rapidly sear them over high heat (190° C – 204° C).
  1. Cook for 4-5 minutes over medium high heat (162° C– 176° C) on each side.
  1. You may coat the patties with barbecue sauce after they have been flipped.
  1. Add the blue cheese during the last minute of cooking, just enough for it to melt.
  1. Once done, serve hot and enjoy.

What is the secret to making burgers more flavourful?

Below is the secret to making burgers more flavourful

  • Make the patties at least 1 inch thick for juicy burgers. This allows the heat of the fire to build a crust on the outside without dehydrating the inside liquid.
  • Sprinkle it with salt immediately before grilling to bring out the greatest taste. If you add it too quickly, it will drain out all the fluids and dry up the patties.
  • Season both sides well with salt and pepper, then sear over high heat before lowering the temperature or transferring to a cooler portion of the grill to finish cooking.
  • The intense temperature combines with the salt to generate a delectable dark coating that preserves within mouthwatering juices of the meat.
  • Don’t flatten the patties with the intention of speeding up the cooking process. When grilling, pressing them with a spatula effectively extracts the fluids, resulting in terribly dry patties.
  • Jabbing the patty with a fork also enables the fluids to escape, so instead, keep an eye on the juices on the surface of the patties to check how well it is done.
  • They’re around medium when they initially start to leak out off the top and still have a tint of pink. The meat will be medium-well when the juices are transparent. The patties are well-done when they turn dense.
  • Although perhaps not required, chilling patties in the refrigerator for an hour before cooking allows them to solidify and maintain their form better on the grill; particularly when searing fish and veggie patties.
  • It is best to combine the meat and shape patties with cool, wet hands.  This helps to keep it as delicate as possible throughout and more importantly, after cooking.
  • Pro Tip: When the spice is blended into the meat, burgers turn out more flavourful. If you want to sprinkle it on later or are cooking prepared patties, apply the spice as you grill or pan-fry.

Mistakes you should avoid while making burgers

  • Not going beyond all-beef burgers

Experiment with other meat or try veggie burgers to reduce saturated fat while retaining strong flavour profiles.

  • Overworking the meat

Ensure that you are mixing the seasoning and adding other ingredients only till everything is incorporated. Anything beyond that will dry it out.

  • Not infusing the patty with fragrant herbs

Adding fragrant herbs to your patty helps enhance its visual appeal and

  • Not being creative

Final Thoughts

A juicy burger is always a welcome dish, but one that is seasoned properly is even better. This basic burger seasoning is made with a blend of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.

Feel free to add a little minced dried onion for added flavour and a bit of texture if you like. Mix it into the meat or sprinkle it over the patties as they cook. Either way, your burgers are sure to be more flavourful.
