Does decaf coffee taste different?

The first way is by soaking coffee beans in the water for hours. After that, the water is treated with methylene chloride and ethyl acetate since after soaking the coffee beans the water will carry the caffeine already present in it.

To do so, water alone is treated with methylene chloride and ethyl acetate, and then after treatment water is readded to the beans. This way will allow the oils and the flavors present in the water to be reabsorbed by the coffee beans.

After that, the solvents are rinsed or evaporated from the unroasted green coffee beans. Then these decaffeinated coffee beans are roasted at a specific temperature to allow the removal of extra moisture and roast the coffee beans.

The second way is decaffeinating coffee beans by rinsing the beans repeatedly with the chemical solvents which are the methylene chloride and the ethyl acetate. So, in this method, the chemical products are in direct contact with the coffee beans.

Furthermore, other than soaking or rinsing coffee beans in water or chemical products, we have a method called the Swiss-water method during which coffee beans are soaked in hot water and then the water is filtered using an activated carbon filter to get rid of the caffeine.

After water filtration, the water will be decaffeinated, so it is added once again to the bean to allow the unroasted beans to reabsorb the flavor. This step is very similar to the previously mentioned method but the means of decaffeinating the water is different.

Finally, the last method is using the carbon dioxide process. During this process, coffee beans will be soaked in water and then placed in a container where carbon dioxide is added under high temperature and pressure.

The coffee beans will be exposed to carbon dioxide for many hours. Carbon dioxide removes caffeine from the beans through the evaporation of the liquid. This method is expensive but it will leave the taste of the coffee intact since it preserves the carbohydrates and the proteins.
