Can you use pasta sauce for pizza?

Depending on traditional recipes, pasta sauce is cooked and reduced to a thick paste, while pizza sauce is actually raw.
Traditionally, pizza sauce was simply ground tomato paste that was sparsely seasoned. The sauce was actually cooked in the oven as part of the pizza, however there are many variations today. Some even require the sauce to be cooked and reduced.
In general, pasta sauce tends to be more complex in flavor than pizza sauce. Pasta sauce tends to be the highlight of the dish, while pizza sauce is used as a base ingredient on pizza.

How to make your own pizza sauce
The best pizza dough does not necessarily lead to the best pizza. Of course, the choice of ingredients and the type of pizza you want to prepare matters a lot, but there is another aspect that is often neglected, but it is extremely important: the pizza sauce. We often use commercial ketchup or special sauce for pizza, also commercially, when, in fact, we can prepare it at home, in a few minutes, adding an extra taste to our pizza.
The pizza sauce is the ingredient that gives the pizza a unifying flavor. This sauce binds all the elements, so it must be prepared depending on the toppings you choose and the type of countertop you prepare. To discover the ideal sauce version, you will have to do a lot of experiments, but once you find your favorite recipe, you will not regret it.
Ingredients for 3 or 4 servings:
- Pear Tomato – 500 grams
- Onion – 1/2 unit
- Garlic – 1 small clove
- Sugar – 1 tablespoon
- Basil – optional
The first thing we will do is blanch the tomatoes, we make a cross-cut on the inside and add them to a pot with boiling water, leave them for about a minute and remove them to a container with ice to cool. Once cold we can peel them without difficulty.
Then, cut them in half and remove the seeds, you can leave them in another container since then we will strain their content to take advantage of all the food.
We chop onion and garlic very finely. We put a little oil in a pan over medium heat and when it is hot we add the onion and garlic until the garlic is slightly golden and the onion is transparent or poached. We turn off the pan and remove from heat.
We chop the tomatoes into small pieces. We add them to the pan that we had removed with the onion and garlic and reheat.
Add the part of the seeds that we had removed before, strain them with a strainer, and discard what is left. We leave everything to heat for 15 minutes until the tomato pulp is almost discarded, carefully not to burn. Salt and pepper and add the sugar. In this step, we can add some basil leaves to flavor our homemade pizza tomato sauce.
Once this time has elapsed, we add the entire contents of the pan to the blender glass and blend until the sauce is well diluted and we will have a sauce ready for our homemade pizza dough bases!
Notes and Tips:
It is recommended that you use Pear tomatoes because they have more meat and we will obtain a much richer homemade tomato sauce. If you have another style of tomatoes, you can use them, but keep in mind that you will probably need more since they tend not to have as much meat.
You can also substitute white sugar for brown sugar or sweetener, suitable for diabetics or people with obesity problems or who are on a diet.
The more you boil the sauce, the denser and more fragrant it will become, resulting in a real paste.
For pizza: once the dough is spread, add the sauce generously, so that the dough is well covered.
For pasta: dry or fresh pasta can be used. If using fresh pasta, put the sauce (about 300g) in a pan with high walls, add 1 cup of water, bring to a boil, then put the fresh pasta directly from the bag (7-10 nests of pasta ) and mix very lightly, until all the pasta is dissolved, then they are only good to serve!
