Can you put beer in the freezer?

In this brief guide, we are going to answer the question “can you put beer in the freezer” with an in-depth analysis of whether or not you can put beer in the freezer. Moreover, we are going to discuss quick methods to cool beer.

So without much ado, let’s dive in and figure out more about it.

Can you put beer in the freezer?

You can put your beer in the freezer but care should be taken in this regard as it is not recommended to leave your bottle of beer in the freezer for more than 30 minutes (depending upon the quantity of the beer).

Moreover, if you accidentally forgot about putting your beer in the freezer, then not only the beer can ice up but it can also explode, the seal can be broken or the beer bottle can shatter. So all in all, it can be a great mess if you forget about putting your beer in the freezer, therefore care should be taken and special attention to time should be given in case you want to chill the beer in the freezer.

Moreover, if the beer has been expanded to such an extent that the seal has been broken, then it can also result in changing the taste of the beer. So if the seal has been compromised then it can result in air entering in while carbonation leaving out of the beer bottle. Thus, you will end up with a flat beer in this scenario.

On the other hand, if the seal is intact, then the carbonation of the beer will be fine and you will be able to enjoy that fizzy taste of your beer. But some of the experts have a different opinion on this subject. According to them, you will not be able to enjoy the delicate aromas of the beer that is served too cold.

So all in all, we can say that no doubt a chilled beer is something that everyone cherishes but to be on the safe side, you should enjoy your beer cold but not too much cold.

Quick methods to cool your beer

Wrapping a damp cloth

You can shorten the time it takes for the beer to get chilled in the freezer by trying a small hack of wrapping damp cloth around your beer bottle. So what you need to do is to take your beer bottle and wrap a damp cloth around it. You can also wrap a damp paper towel or a newspaper around the beer bottle. Now place this wrapped bottle in the freezer. It takes about 7 to 15 minutes to cool a beer in the freezer by using this hack.

The science behind this hack is that the water from the damp cloth, paper towel, or newspaper begins to evaporate. Now when evaporation takes place from a surface, it cools down that particular surface. Therefore the evaporating water lowers the temperature around the beer and resultantly the beer cools down at a faster rate.

Wrapping a copper foil

You can also wrap copper foil instead of damp cloth around your beer bottles for cooling them faster as copper has high thermal conductivity. Beer bottles can be chilled in less than 10 minutes by using this technique.

Ice and salt

So for this method, you have to take a large bowl or a bucket. Now add ice and salt to it. Place your beer can or bottle inside this bucket. It will take about 7-10 minutes to cool the beer by submerging it in the ice and salt.

When salt is added to ice, what it does is dissolves in a thin layer of the water that is present on the surface of the ice. When the salt mixes with this thin water layer, it decreases its freezing point. Thus this layer has a lower freezing point than that of the pure water as the water changes into ice at 32 degrees Fahrenheit while this salt mixed water has a lower freezing point than this.

Thus the ice will melt at a faster pace and subsequently will chill the beer quickly.

Drill your beer

If you are ready to do some labor to get your hands on a chilled beer and that too really quickly then what you have to do is to take a thermos cap and drill a hole inside it. Now attach a screw to this hole with the help of bolts and attach the screw with the drill machine.

Now what you gotta do is to completely submerge the beer can in the bucket containing ice water and salt, place the thermos cap on it and turn on the drill. The beer can will start to rotate at a really fast pace which will increase the rate of the heat transfer and thereby the beer will be chilled quickly. It takes about 5 minutes to cool a beer using this method.
