The only way you can assure you are safe eating cheese is to completely cook it, bacteria can’t survive above 165 degrees. To fully kill the pathogens mentioned above you need to cook your cheese up to 165 degrees plus a 3-minute stand time for safety. 

According to the USDA, “3-minute stand for safety refers to the time that the product remains at the final temperature after it has been removed from the oven, grill, or stove. 

During the 3 minutes after it has been removed, its temperature remains constant and continues to rise, to kill pathogens’’

How to add Mozzarella to my diet when pregnant?

Mozzarella is a super nutrient cheese that is filled with calcium. Pregnant women need 1,000 mg of calcium per day. 1 ounce of mozzarella cheese can give you 200 mg of calcium. 

Also, it is packed with protein and is the perfect filling snack you need to eat when pregnant. Some ideas on how to eat mozzarella are

  • Paired mozzarella with some crackers or fresh fruit
  • Make a Caprese salad with pasteurized mozzarella with tomatoes and basil leaves
