Crawfish can eat both plants and animal material like aquatic plants, molluscs, insect larvae, mature insects, tadpoles, amphibian eggs, and small fish.

Storing conditions for crawfish

Crawfish can survive for about two to three days if we keep them in a saltwater fish tank, which is not their natural habitat. It is not advised to keep them at room temperature. So, it is best if crawfish is cooked immediately or it can also be placed in a fridge after covering it with a damp cloth. 

Crawfish which are boiled can be kept in a fridge for about one to two days. People who want to preserve crawfish for a longer time must boil crawfish after removing the meat from the shell. Then it is placed in a freezer after closing with a lid.

Different recipes of crawfish eggs

Crawfish egg is used to make several dishes. Following are some dishes in which crawfish egg is used as an ingredient

Cajun crawfish eggs: Six tablespoons of butter are heated over medium heat in a saucepan. Onions, bell peppers, and garlic are added and cooked. After adding flour, it is stirred constantly for about two minutes. 

The sauce is warmed over low heat. The remaining half of the bell peppers, onions, and garlic are added and stirred continuously, and cooked until it gets thick.

Crawfish deviled eggs recipe: All the eggs are covered with water after placing in a medium pot. These eggs are boiled for about two minutes. After boiling, heat is turned off and hot eggs are covered. 

For the deviled egg filling: Finely dice the celery and green onion and add to the bowl of cooked egg yolks. Add all of the remaining ingredients and mash well with a fork until no lumps remain. Taste for seasoning. Chill for 15-30 minutes.

For the crawfish topping: Place all of the ingredients into a skillet and warm for 2-3 minutes, until the topping becomes fragrant. Let the filling sit until the topping isn’t quite as hot, before topping the eggs. Just warm to room temperature is best.
