A spoiled bottle of wine will have a cork that has been removed from the bottle. There’s a problem with the bottle’s temperature. This generally happens while the bottles are in transit, but it is possible that it could take place in hotter climates if the bottles were not properly stored.

Seeing bubbles but no movement in the wine is a bad sign. There is another way to tell if a wine is still or sparkling: the sound it makes when it is opened. As you remove the cork from a wine that has gone sour, it emits a different voice.

Detecting Clues Via Odor

It has a vinegary scent. This smell is a clear indicator that wine is well past its prime and should be discarded. Sultry-smelling wines, such as vinegar, should be thrown away.
