How to safely eat birds?

  • To avoid foodborne infections, store and prepare your meat properly. Cross-contamination during heating or allowing the meat to hang out for an extended period of time can lead to bacterial development, which can make you very sick.
  • Make sure you refrigerate your meat within two hours of purchasing it. If you won’t be able to prepare your meat within 2 days, put it in the freezer.
  • There are various methods for defrosting frozen bird meat. Before cooking, let it thaw in the fridge for 24 hours. To thaw it, immerse it in cold water. Every 30 minutes, change the water. This procedure can take about an hour to thaw a three-pound box.
  • Thaw the meat in the microwave. Ensure to prepare it as soon as possible after thawing. When cooking, concentrate on getting the food to the proper temperature rather than on the amount of time it takes to cook. Meat should be cooked to a level of 165 degrees Fahrenheit before eating.
